 This concise, no-nonsense book teaches
you how to develop accessible, standards-compliant ASP.NET-driven web
sites with the latest technologies: ASP.NET and Macromedia Dreamweaver
MX 2004. Real-world tutorials will help you achieve results quickly as
you plunge into the text.
You'll learn the fundamental
concepts of the .NET Framework, then quickly move on to the workings of
ASP.NET within the Framework. You will explore databases and the SQL
language, in preparation for handling ASP.NET databound controls. Next,
you’ll explore the core role that XML, and XML web services play in
.NET. Finally, you’ll learn about Dreamweaver's extensibility and
coding efficiency features—two of the most important aspects of
developing with Dreamweaver. A First Look at ASP.NET v. 2.0 systematically prepares you for Microsoft's ASP.NET 2.0 Web development platform, showing how to use it to reduce development time and costs, improve the performance of Web applications and services, simplify deployment and management, and extend your applications to mobile clients. Drawing on extraordinary insider access to Microsoft's ASP.NET development team, three renowned ASP.NET experts cover every key platform enhancement, from Master Page templates for standardizing look and feel to improved security and data- access controls. They go far beyond already published white papers and previews, presenting detailed development techniques, best practices, and sample code that will give you a running start with ASP.NET 2.0. Whether you're already developing with ASP.NET, or preparing to migrate from ASP, A First Look at ASP.NET v. 2.0 gives you complete information for assessing ASP.NET 2.0--and making the most of it. I have written several books, and I am always
struck by the same thought as the writing process for each one comes to
an end: that is, over the course of a few short months, life can take a
fantastic array of twists and turns. Working on a project like this one
provides neat bookends to a beginning and an end, and always—without
fail—forces me to pause and review the previous months of my life. Sometimes,
these periods are filled with joy, as occurred with my last project and
my son being born as the book neared completion. Yet other times, life
takes unexpected and traumatic turns. As I write this, my mind
continues to dwell on the tragedy of September 11, 2001, and the
thousands of people who have lost their lives. It has been difficult to
accept the events of that day. Moreover, it has marked the ending of
this particular project as indeed one of the darker bookends in my, and
the world’s, lifetime. Using ASP.NET, you can build Web applications that deliver
unprecedented power and performance. But to make the most of ASP.NET,
Web developers need to think and work very differently from the ways
they've programmed in the past. In Maximizing ASP.NET Jeffrey Putz
helps you make the transition—and reap the rewards.
If you're a
long-time scripter who's migrated from ASP, PHP, or other traditional
platforms, Putz shows you how to use ASP.NET's object-oriented model to
write code that's easier to deploy, manage, extend, and reuse. If
you're already comfortable with the fundamentals of ASP.NET using C# or
VB.NET, this book's platform-specific details and development best
practices will make you dramatically more effective.
