Embedded Systems: Desktop Integration explores designing embedded systems and monitoring and controlling them from desktop systems. Through the step-by-step development of an embedded thermostat, readers learn how to implement three different hardware interfaces: RS-232, USB, and Ethernet. Several different components are used to provide the reader with alternative hardware solutions. Additionally, three different types of microcontrollers are used to implement the intelligence in the thermostat: the BASIC Stamp, the dsPIC, and the Cypress PSoC. Monitor and control software is developed for Windows, Linux, and the BSD operating Systems. Several cross-platform tools are explored including wxWindows, Borland Delphi and Kylix, and C++BuilderX, and there is even a section on how to make your own printed circuit boards. All of the code, projects, and resources are available at www.wordware.com/files/embsys and www.time-lines.com/embedbk1. # Provides comprehensive coverage of the field with more than 500 illustrations
# Offers a careful blend of traditional topics with innovative technologies at the vanguard of advancements being made
# Emphasizes the practical application of the technologies discussed
# Includes detailed coverage of a variety of motor drives
# Discusses Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS)
# Explores more-electric vehicles, including aircraft, ships, and terrestrial vehicles
Less expensive, lighter, and smaller than its electromechanical
counterparts, power electronics lie at the very heart of controlling
and converting electric energy, which in turn lies at the heart of
making that energy useful. From household appliances to space-faring
vehicles, the applications of power electronics are virtually limitless.
Until now, however, the same could not be said for access to up-to-date
reference books devoted to power electronics. Written by engineers for
engineers, The Power Electronics Handbook covers the full range of
relevant topics, from basic principles to cutting-edge applications.
Compiled from contributions by an international panel of experts and
full of illustrations, this is not a theoretical tome, but a practical
and enlightening presentation of the usefulness and variety of
technologies that encompass the field.
For modern and emerging applications, power electronic devices and
systems must be small, efficient, lightweight, controllable, reliable,
and economical. The Power Electronics Handbook is your key to
understanding those devices, incorporating them into controllable
circuits, and implementing those systems into applications from
virtually every area of electrical engineering.

CompTIA A+ certification is where IT careers begin. You'll learn how to be a computer technician -- from installation, configuration, and basic networking to computer diagnosis and maintenance. A+ certification gets you started in IT. It prepares you for your role as a Computer Technician, IT Technician, Remote Support Technician, or Depot Technician, along with many other entry-level IT jobs. As digital logic designs grow larger and more complex,
functional verification has become the number one bottleneck in the
design process. Reducing verification time is crucial to project
success, yet many practicing engineers have had little formal
training in verification, and little exposure to the newest
solutions. Hardware Design Verification
systematically presents today's most valuable simulation-based and
formal verification techniques, helping test and design engineers
choose the best approach for each project, quickly gain confidence
in their designs, and move into fabrication far more rapidly.
College students will find that coverage of verification principles
and common industry practices will help them prepare for jobs as
future verification engineers.
Author William K. Lam, one of the world's leading experts in
design verification, is a recent winner of the Chairman's Award for
Innovation, Sun Microsystems' most prestigious technical
achievement award. Drawing on his wide-ranging experience, he
introduces the foundational principles of verification, presents
traditional techniques that have survived the test of time, and
introduces emerging techniques for today's most challenging
designs. Throughout, Lam emphasizes practical examples rather than
mathematical proofs; wherever advanced math is essential, he
explains it clearly and accessibly.
Beyond cutting edge, Scott Mueller goes where no computer book author
has gone before--right past all the warranty stickers, the hidden
screws, and the fear factor to produce a real owner's manual that every
laptop owner should have on his desk. This book shows the upgrades
users can perform, the ones that are better left to the manufacturer,
and how to use add-on peripherals to make the most of a laptop. The CD
contains one-of-a-kind video showing just what's inside a portable PC.
For readers who have ever wondered what goes on inside their portable
PC, how to upgrade/repair the portable PC or how to live on the road
with it, this is the one must-have book of the year!
Reader 's review :
People that know me understand I’m the type of person that will try
to fix something that is broken before I will stop and ask for
assistance or even call a repairman. I admit, I’m my father’s daughter,
and excited about the idea of tinkering. Computers included, my
confidence is high when I take off my PC’s cover. I even get several
calls a month requesting PC assistance from family and friends. Despite
this, you won’t hear me mention anything about tinkering with my
laptop. Lucky for me whenever I try to use the few programs I have
installed on my laptop, they run without fail. Even still, when that
day does arrive when it starts to act up, a laptop technician would be
my first choice in assessing the problem.
